While some of the group arrived on Wednesday, the group was all together by 10am on Thursday morning. Some of us explored the city on foot while others opted for a 90-minute open coach tour of the city. Both options were a great way to see the city while fighting back the jetlag that comes with a European vacation. Along the way, we got to see the architecture of the city as well as the green spaces of the city. Madrid has a beautiful mix of the two.
The unexpected bar favorite of the trip has been Aperol Spritz. Any time we stop for a meal or a drink, an Aperol Spritz seems on our table or the table of our neighbor. With temperatures near 80F, Tinto de Verano and a cold Spanish beer are big hits as well.
We capped of our day with a tour and dinner at Botín. Botín is known as the oldest continuously operating restaurant in the world – same name, same business, same location since 1725. Our tour guide was very entertaining and informative bringing alive the history of the building surrounding the wood-fired oven that is the heart and soul of Botín.
